The PromethION is available in two formats, offering the capacity for either 24 or 48 high-output flow cells. The unique modular way that the PromethION is engineered enables flexible control of sample processing and scaling of the number of flow cells run at any time to meet the needs of the laboratory. The device can be run at high occupancy and sample throughput as well as at a low capacity for running a smaller number of samples per week. Oxford Nanopore works with all customers to ensure users have enough device capacity to meet their project requirements.
The 12-month license and warranty are required to use the latest Oxford Nanopore software and devices. An active license requirement is laid out in out in the Nanopore Product Terms and Conditions, and provides the user with access to the following:

Software updates: Oxford Nanopore provides regular updates to software and firmware. Users need to keep their software up to date to receive support and to have access to the latest features, basecalling algorithms, and supported chemistries. To keep up to date with the latest releases, users should refer to the Nanopore Community for release notes.

Hardware upgrades: On release of updated hardware, users will be notified of the upgrade path options and added to a queue to receive a device update, if applicable. Where applicable, free upgrades will be subject to an open consumables order and minimum usage requirement.

Returns and replace policy:
- PromethION Data Acquisition Unit: An on-site engineer visit within 10 business days of when a fault is confirmed by Oxford Nanopore that renders the device non-functional.
- PromethION Sequencing Unit: Replacement devices will be shipped within 10 business days when confirmed by Oxford Nanopore that >20% of sequencing capacity is unavailable and cannot be rectified remotely or in field.

Support: Monday to Friday 9 am - 5 pm (local time). To continue to use the software and hardware, as well as receive support, customers will need to have an active license and warranty. For starter packs only, Oxford Nanopore will request for the device to be returned when the warranty has expired.
License and warranty is valid for 12 months.
